Itโs a bit of an oxymoron to say โgood COVID newsโ, I know. Good news would be that itโs no longer news. But there really is a lot thatโs being learned along with current trends in Florida that are leading to good news cycle with the pandemic.
Floridaโs weekly trend for cases is the lowest itโs been since mid-November. Weโre past the traditional peak of flu season. Also, Miamiโs Jackson Health became the first major health system in Florida to announce supplies of vaccines exceeding demand for those eligible under Floridaโs Phase 1 program.
Florida has enough capacity in the system to vaccinate every Floridian who wants a vaccine by the end of March, which means itโs only vaccine supply thatโs currently a limiting factor.
Johnson & Johnson said it can rollout 20 million vaccines by the end of March if approved and two studies have indicated that even one dose of any of the available vaccines reduce hospitalizations of COVID positive patients by over 70%.
I could continue but you get the idea. Last week, I indicated that based on the arc of the traditional flu season and recent trends within Florida, that weโd likely passed the peak of the pandemic. Literally, all of the news which has happened since has only reinforced that notion. Thereโs a way to go still but thereโs plenty of realistic room for legitimate optimism.
